How to position your baby properly in a baby carrier.

Did you know that the way you position your baby in your baby carrier can make a huge difference to yours and their health and safety? You ideally want your baby carrier to be as supportive as possible for your little one to mimic being carried and cuddled in your arms.

In this blog post, we’ll share with you some easy tips to positioning your baby safely in your baby carrier.

Supporting your baby’s hips with the ‘m’ position

When a baby grows and develops from a curled position to a more stretched out position, it is essential to position your baby’s legs into the ‘m’ position when in a baby carrier. This is to prevent hips from being forced to be stretched out too early by hanging down loosely from the carrier and increasing the risk of hip dysplasia or dislocation.

Healthy Hips Australia has endorsed our CONNECT Collection as babywearing that promotes healthy hip development and prevents hip dysplasia by positioning your newborn’s legs in the M-position during their most critical development stage.

Supporting your baby’s health with the ‘c’ position in the baby carrier

When carrying your baby in a baby carrier or wrap, you need to ensure that their spine is in a naturally formed ‘c’ position. This ensures that airways aren’t restricted, and the baby doesn’t overheat by being too close to you.

You can loosen the straps at the sides slightly of your carrier to correct your baby’s positioning if they aren’t in the ‘c’ position.

Make sure your baby carrier is adjusted to you

Don’t forget about your health and safety when wearing your baby carrier. You will be carrying your baby around in it, so you want to make sure you are comfortable and babywearing safely.

Our CONNECT Plus and CONNECT Carrier are ergonomically designed for comfortable all-day wearing and adjustment. Our Sixway™ buckle system allows you to disconnect the carrier from your shoulders, sides, back, and waist using a range of soft-close, magnetic and heavy-duty buckles. Intuitive pull-forward straps provide flexibility in adjusting the carrier on the go. Your baby’s weight is evenly distributed across your hips and waist, further aided by the padded lumbar support. With our CONNECT Wrap, you can distribute weight evenly across your hips and shoulders with wide, sturdy waist straps and cross-back design, providing comfortable all-day wearing.
